Before you dive into the article, I wanted to give you a heads-up.
This is not our usual review – I mixed several things into this article, hoping to give you an introduction to the world of fantasy sex toys.
The world is extensive and 3500 words are not nearly enough to go into all facets of it, however, if you’re new to it, it should give you a clear picture.
On the other hand, if you’re an experienced fantasy toy collector, this article should give you an interesting insight into the process of Creature Feature Toys and also an insight into Calliope through our eyes.
The world of fantasy sex toys
A while ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on a fantasy sex toy.
Stumbled, yea right.
Read this first
For some reason, unknown to us, photos on the site have been appearing much darker than they are. To see them the way they’re supposed to look, click on them.
If you would open our Twitter, you would find sex toys, sex, more sex, and more sex toys, and if you’d really scroll down you’d probably find shit loads of porn gifs. So saying that I stumbled on it when I’m surrounded by so much even more, is really a gross misrepresentation of what happened.
Fate connected us, the fantasy sex toy world, and me.
Little did I know back then that it’s called a fantasy toy. I thought that it’s a wonderful work of art and that it must be a result of incredible craftsmanship. I followed the profile in question and started investigating.
And that investigation took me many places. I found out about fantasy sex toys, different color combinations, different themes, different firmness options, custom toys & drops.
It felt like I walked into Narnia but instead of mythical beasts and talking animals, I walked in the world of unique-shaped dildos. And the only thing that was missing is them talking and plotting how to take over the world.
And the more Twitter profiles I followed, the more were popping out. I also noticed that the demand and the interest of people is nothing short of huge. The community revolving around fantasy sex toys is also very active on Twitter (and Reddit too, which I found later) – so if this review piques your interest, I’d suggest Twitter as a good starting point.
There are sooo many different fantasy dildos available – small, big, thin, thick, fat, from squishy to firm and of course – many different themed dildos.
Some of the popular themes dildo makers (sometimes called dong makers) use are dragons, plants, horses, tools, various other monsters, snakes, tentacles, birds, demons, rockets, ice creams,… And this is just the beginning of the list.
Really wild.
What amazed me is the obvious amount of craftsmanship included in the whole process of making these toys, from sculpting to packing it.
I was so amazed by it – and still am – to the point I even learned 3D modeling, learned how to make molds and a bunch of other stuff. If our life situation was a tad bit different, I would definitely venture through my own closet and walk in my own piece of Narnia.
About Creature Feature Toys
Instead of rambling about Creature Feature Toys, I decided to ask Fuzz, who I was in contact with, to introduce CFT and themselves. Very clever of me, ha-ha.
Can you introduce yourself and Creature Feature toys? How does one get into the business of fantasy toys?
Hi, thanks for giving me the chance to share a little about our journey in this fun and rapidly growing fantasy toy market! I go by Fuzz, and together with my partner Peach, and our good friend Araphre, we make up the Creature Feature Toys team!
Before CFT was founded, Araphre and I had been working on an adult visual novel game together as a creative outlet after our day jobs. Over time, we felt we could take our passion and skills with character design further. We had already been fantasy toy collectors for a few years and began looking into the maker-side of the industry. Many different folks from all over the world are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with fantasy sex toys with innovative, inclusive, and exciting designs. The unique shapes and colors of fantasy toys were always appealing to us, and we had plenty of ideas for toys that we wanted for ourselves!
We had also always wondered: “What are sex toys made of? What does 100% Platinum Cure silicone mean?” It takes a lot of curiosity to research all of what goes into making toys, and it felt like the more we learned, the more we wanted to create safe and wild toys for all to enjoy with peace of mind. During our initial research phase, we learned that fantasy toy communities are very supportive and collaborative. Most independent shops are very knowledgeable and are happy to share information on toy safety.
Finally, like any business start-up, there’s going to be a big initial investment of time and money. Without regulations and many guides for using materials for this purpose, it took us a lot of trial and error, patience, and time researching. It is truly a labor of love to bring these creations to life and make a business out of it. But it is so worth it at the end to hold a safe toy with a unique design that looks and feels good!
Packaging and the contents of it
Calliope arrived in the sealed packaging along with several other things.
Since it was around Halloween when we got it, CTF was kind enough to include a bunch of sweets. Needless to say, those poor sweets did not survive 15 minutes between Leja and me. The speed at which we ate them was astounding. So, Fuzz and Araphre, thank you for sending us sweets, they were delicious.
We also got a postcard-like illustration with their models: Phaethon, Mirage, Dionaea, Kose, Cyrus, Eros, and Artemis.
I really like that, I love the illustration and what I love even more, is that it gives all those toys a backstory and a character. If you open their pages, which I linked above, scroll down a bit – you’ll find that each of them has its own story.
Using a dildo shaped like a dragon, a dragon that has a character and a story – is an awesome base for a fantasy role play session or masturbation session.
In the next sealed package, we got a pack of their Critters Fritters. Critters Fritters are tiny versions of their toys that ARE SUPER CUTE!
These are obviously not meant to be used in a sexual way but as a decoration or as a stress reliever.
They’re not added to every package they send out, only on special occasions and holidays such as Halloween. If you’d like to get only them, you can visit their Novelty page and order from there.
The last thing included in the package was a toy care guide, which I think is super useful and very thoughtful. Many toy producers assume that everybody knows how to take care of their sex toys, when in fact they do not.
A simple but thoughtful gesture.
Size and shape
Like other CTF toys, Calliope is also based on a fantasy character – a sea-goat.
Edit: Fuzz confirmed, Calliope is the sea goat’s cock.
Here’s Calliope’s story, which is, I must say, pretty inviting.
The toy itself is gorgeous. The colors and details are exquisite. The head of it and the detail on the back of it – the piercing, above where the frenulum is, are interesting to say at least. I was immediately wondering if that will have any effect, will Leja feel it, and will it be more pleasurable because of it.
The shaft is curved and spirals down to the base. The upper part has a circumference of 4’’ while the bottom is slightly wider – its circumference is 6.5’’.
The base is the most fascinating part of the toy in my opinion. There are ridges/decorations going all around the base, which remind me of waves – not sure if that’s what they had in mind but it looks amazing.
When you take into account that they hand-sculpt their toys with clay, the whole thing is even more awe-inspiring. Really ingenious.
The total length of the toy is 7.25″, while the insertable length is 5.75’’.
Another thing that got me wondering is if the decorations on the base are only decorations or they can be used to enhance the experience. While I wasn’t sure about that, I was certain that the spiraling shape can be felt and enjoyed if we twist the toy while inserting it.
Our Calliope is medium firm, which means it’s possible to squeeze it and bend it. Folks from CTF said medium firmness is the closest to natural hardness, and that you can feel the details better than you would if the toy was Soft or Super soft.

Can you explain different firmness options? What’s the difference between them?
We offer four different firmnesses of silicone that are commonly used among other indie fantasy toy shops. Each firmness has its own production challenges, but we like to give options to suit individual preferences for the many different sizes and textures that our models can have.
- Super Soft is very squishy, like a gummy. It can make very girthy or textured models a lot more approachable, though it can be difficult for anal use.
- Soft is our most popular firmness. It has plenty of squeezes but can still hold its shape when inserted.
- Medium is closest to “natural” hardness, while not being too hard to squeeze and bend a little. The model’s details can be felt more strongly than Soft, and it’s easier to insert anally.
- Firm has little squish, allowing it to hold the shape and textures of the toy for a more intense feeling.
These firmness options are all 100% platinum cure silicone so they are easy to clean and can last a long time. We are always happy to help if someone is new or unsure about firmnesses on a particular model.

Calliope is made of 100% body-safe silicone.
Using Calliope
While I enjoy talking about toys and analyzing their features, the part I obviously like the most is trying them out. Who would say, right??
We were both eager to try it since this is the first fantasy toy and also, it is the first toy that is not firm.
After warming up and indulging in the sweet foreplay, I pulled out our new sea goat’s cock. This part would be much more effective if I knew how sea goats sound when they’re horny, however, I have no clue.
I used some lube on the toy, like I always do, and started teasing Leja with it, rubbing it off her clit. As I was going over her clit with the piercing part of the toy, I noticed a positive reaction.
My hand movements were long and curved. I started at the base of the toy, and then kinda leaned the piercing part more into her. She loved it.
I kept on teasing her by inserting the tip of the toy, taking it back out and using the piercing part on her clit. Oh boy 😀
Thrusting with the toy was easy because of the base. The toy fit my hand perfectly and I had enough grip to comfortably use it.
Sea goat excelled at its performance. Leja was melting as I inserted Calliope deeper and deeper. The widening shaft really delivered those ooh and aah moments.
Later when we talked, she said that spiral design also felt nice. Gentle but at the same time intense.
The ”move” that made her come was me pressing her clit with the thumb of my left hand and twisting Calliope while at the same time doing deep, long strokes.
Holding the toy by its base also allowed for easy twisting.
Leja also felt the decorations on the base, however, they were not that crucial in bringing her to orgasm.
All in all, the unusual design features proved to be great features. The piercing on the head is a very thoughtful add-on, for both the teasing and the thrusting.
The experience of fucking with Calliope was also enhanced due to its pronounced, bulbous veins spiraling down the shaft.
And that paired with the widening of the shaft was responsible for some of the loudest moans I heard from Leja recently.
If I had to compare Calliope’s design to the design and shape of some of the classic toys, I would say Calliope is a complete winner. The fantasy component of the design allows it to stray away from the classical sex toy design norms and thus allows it to create new shapes and new sensations.
Furthermore, the loose design rules – or to say, the ability to freely design the shape of the toy allow it to fit in a story, which then again adds value to the whole thing. Because you’re now becoming a part of a story, a story you can even erotically role play.
I’m certain there are many other fantasy toys that excel in the design, both visual and functional, however, Calliope is our first fantasy toy and I can wholeheartedly vouch for it.
To conclude, I’m impressed by the amount of sheer skill and craftsmanship included in making Calliope. Great job Araphre and Fuzz. It’s even more amazing when I think about the fact you sculpted it with your hands.

While I think Calliope would be amazing if used anally too, we, unfortunately, have not tried using it that way. I contracted covid so most of the plans, even the sexy ones, got postponed.
If you were to choose the Soft or Very soft silicone option, you would not be able to use it anally.
Additional information
To use Calliope you need to have an ability to actively grasp and hold the toy, as well as mobility in the arms to thrust it in and out. The suction cup feature would make it accessible to many more people because the toy could be used hands-free, after the initial setup. A wide base makes it easier to grip and hold the toy while using it.
If you’re someone who experiences a limited sensation, you might find the pronounced textures and details very pleasing.
How is Calliope made?
I thought it would be interesting how they made Calliope, start to finish, so I asked Fuzz to explain it, step by step.
How are, in short, fantasy toys like Calliope made? How long does the process take, what are the steps, and where do you find inspiration for the designs?
Most toy makers will 3D print their designs, although we hand sculpt ours with clay. Sculpting by hand is therapeutic for me when I’m usually at the computer for my day job. I feel like I can focus and enjoy the process more when I separate it from the screen.
The design phase can take a varied amount of time because we like to make designs well in advance and theme them around the planned release. For example, a tentacle could be pretty fitting for a Summer model, so we will start brainstorming tentacle designs and researching other tentacles on the market so that we can create something new.
Or sometimes we will look at our catalog and see that we don’t have a short and girthy model yet, but we had been holding on to an idea for an alien character that would fit these design elements perfectly. I really enjoy making original creature designs too and may include them in our model lineup one day! This is the most exciting part for us — we have no shortage of ideas, and there are plenty of monsters in movies, games, and books to draw inspiration from.
Once a design and timeline have been decided, we will doodle some concepts until we can decide on shapes that look pleasing and serve a purpose (such as anal safe, g-spot stimulation, etc.) before I begin sculpting. Sometimes I can draw exactly what I want to sculpt — other times, I use it as a loose guide and add details as I go. Typically, I can finish a sculpt in a day if I’m really inspired and have a clear vision of what I want, or I may pick at it throughout the course of a week.
Then comes the not-so-fun part. After baking the clay, we will spend a significant amount of time finishing the model. It really depends on how large or complicated the designs are, but it can take most of the day to sand the model, and another week or two for the added glossy finish to cure. Some models behave nicely and will be done at this point, others might need a few more touchups that add additional time.
After the finish is complete, we make the mother mold and a stronger resin master copy. Sometimes the clay masters will break when removing them from their first mold, which is awful after all that prep work! There is a lot of pressure for the first mold to be perfect. If the master breaks beyond repair and we cannot work with the mold, we must start over from the sculpting phase. I am thankful that Araphre is knowledgeable about this part of the business, and it allows me to manage the rest of the shop while he works on these delicate stages. With this process, it’s always best to plan ahead and assume everything may take longer than you think it will.

Mirage The Mimic
Mirage the Mimic is our most complicated sculpt yet! We typically start sculpting at the small size, but I skipped straight to large so I could get all those details just right. Apart from being a fun nod to Dungeons & Dragons, there are a lot of ways to play with this toy!
Emblazoned Artemis
Emblazoned Artemis was inspired by dragons and kaiju, so the model has a lot of textured ridges and plating along the shaft to add to that fantasy. Artemis was the first toy we released, so of course, this model has a special place in our hearts!
Dionaea the Cultivar
Dionaea the Cultivar was one of the more challenging sculpts for me. I designed this plant monster myself, and it went through several sculpts and testing phases to get the textures and shapes to our liking! Despite being more of a horror-based creature, this model looks fantastic in pastels and light colors.
About Calliope’s new place and fucking with sea goat’s cock
As of recently, Calliope’s new place is on a visible shelf in our home. We both share the opinion that such a beautiful piece deserves a nice place. And not only is it beautiful but it also delivers wonderful pleasure and is a result of skilled work.
Also, it’s a much better conversational piece than those washed-up elephant figurines people still have at home.
The experience of fucking Leja with sea goat’s cock has also been an interesting one. While we did not try to role play such a scenario, she definitely enjoyed Calliope’s piercing & the widening spiral shaft, and the decorations on the bottom. She also really enjoyed me twisting the toy.
I can assure you that Calliope will often be making trips to our bedroom.
And you never know – by the time we review the next CFT toy, I may be well versed in making sea goat’s sounds and noises
