Wield your crop and slip into your leather harness; it’s time to celebrate fetish month. January plays host to International Fetish Day (typically the third Friday of the month), and this year the kinky date for your calendar is Friday 16th January 2026. But why celebrate one day when you can rejoice for a whole month?

As a practiced kinkster, I’m well aware that our unique community is often misunderstood by vanilla folk. Fetish month offers the opportunity to demonstrate that we’re just normal people with a passion for kink and sexual diversity.

We’re consenting adults, but we like to play in a slightly “different” way. In the quest for acceptance and kinky togetherness, here are 6 beginner-friendly ways to celebrate fetish month.

Fetish month - 6 ways to play

Racy role play

Getting dressed up in naughty costumes and acting out a sexy scene is a great way to dip your toes into the world of kink. Power exchange is a popular theme, and there are plenty of possibilities, including Boss and employee, Teacher and student, Doctor and patient, Guard and prisoner, and Master and servant.

My partner and I love to engage in racy role play and often get dressed up. We like to set the scene by using props too, as this adds to the fun. I had a ball recently, pretending to be a ball-breaking bitch of a boss, teasing and tormenting my nervous employee.

If you prefer a more submissive position, try taking the role of a prisoner; being strip-searched and interrogated by an overbearing guard can be exhilarating.

Stimulating sensory

Stimulate the senses and get your pulse racing by engaging in sensory play. This type of kinky fun involves using different objects to illicit responses.

You can purchase BDSM products, such as pinwheels and claws, specifically designed for play, but as a beginner, you don’t need to blow the budget to enjoy sensory sensations.

My lover and I have tried out a few objects we have around the home, such as a leather belt tapped against bare thighs and a silky pillowcase rubbed on erect nipples. We’ve also used a feather to lightly tickle, and even a metallic fork to carefully prod, all of which work wonders.

Vary the sensations by switching between objects, and watch your partner squirm as you treat them to sensory pleasure. Ramp up the fun by incorporating temperature play into the mix, too. Alternate between hot and cold by using ice, cold drinks such as chilled drinks, and heated towels.

Bountiful bondage

You don’t have to get tied up in knots to celebrate fetish month, but bondage is a fun and easy way to try out kink. Start simple, by using silk scarves or fluffy handcuffs to secure your partner’s wrists or ankles. Once they’re bound and at your mercy, you can tease by touching and caressing.

A blindfold can add an element of sensory deprivation to the scene, too. Simply cover the eyes with a piece of material to allow your partner’s imagination to run riot as you whisper naughty words in their ear. Hoods are a step up (a thin pillowcase will do the trick), but make sure your partner is comfortable and able to breathe.

Indulgent impact

Nothing says fetish like a well-spanked rosy bottom. Every time I bend over my partner’s lap and have my knickers unceremoniously pulled down, I feel a tingle of excitement. As his hand delivers slap after slap on my bare rear, I wiggle and yelp, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks.

A form of impact play, a light spanking is a great way to gently delve into kink. If you’re new to impact, a gentle hand spanking over clothes is a sensible starting point.

Once you’re both comfy with that, you can move on to harsher smacks, a bare bottom beating, or using implements such as a wooden spoon, paddle, or flogger.

Fun with food

Food can be a yummy way to celebrate any occasion, and in this case, it’s perfect for a fetish-laden feast. We’re not talking beans on toast or a baked potato with sour cream; this type of fun involves sexy delicacies such as oysters, strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce.

Set the table, dim the lights, put on some mood music and feed one another oysters as you sip chilled champagne. For dessert, skip the plates and use your lover’s body as a platter for some sweet treats.

Squirt whipped cream and drizzle chocolate sauce onto naked flesh before topping off with plump strawberries for a perfect pudding. Tuck in and enjoy!

Sexy strip-tease

Thankfully, you don’t have to climb on stage and perform a racy routine in front of an audience to participate in a sexy striptease.

Delight your partner by greeting them at the door with a saucy smile and beckoning them into the bedroom. Get them to lie back on the bed and take it easy, while you put on a show they will remember.

Dress up in clothes that make you feel hot as fuck and gyrate to the beat as you look into your lover’s eyes. Take your time and casually begin to unbutton your shirt or blouse, before slipping it off, then do the same with your lower garments.

Once you’re in your undies, you can tease your partner by getting closer. Kiss, touch, and flirt, rubbing your body on theirs until they are aching for you.

Why fetish month matters

Celebrate fetish month with SSC play
