We’re reviewing the Obedience app today – and it’s the first app review on Spices of Lust.
I think it’s going to be more of an introduction than an actual review since it’s the first app we are reviewing and it’s the first app that does what Obedience does.
What is the Obedience app actually?
Obedience app is a habit tracker app, specially created for BDSM couples.
You and your partner will be able to track the progress of daily and weekly tasks inside the app. The Dominant partner will be in charge of punishments and rewards.
After a couple connects their phones, submissives can update their habit status and spend their reward points. Dominants can track these updates in real time and also set up a reward and punishment system.
How to connect apps together?
When you open the app, the first thing you have to do is create your account, which really is effortless.
Add your picture if you want to, enter your name, password and pick your role (Dominant, submissive, switch). And you’re done.
Now, you can invite your partner and have them install the app too.
Sending the invites is easy (as well as accepting them) and it can be done in many different ways (you can do it through email, through social media platforms, Whatsapp, Viber,….). I sent Leja an invitation to Messenger.
And just like that, in a matter of minutes, our apps were connected together.
They made it really convenient.
What are the main functions of the app?
Before I dive into the functions and possibilities, I just want to make it clear that the Obedience app does not have any prewritten/premade content in it.
All the habits, punishments, and rewards have to be entered by yourself – Obedience is only a tracker.
Okay, now off to functions.
This is the default screen of the app.
In the upper left corner – the hamburger icon opens up the main menu, in the center of the top bar you can see the name of your partner and their role (if you have more partners, you can click on it and switch to a different partner), and in the upper right corner is the chat icon – clicking on it will open a chat between you and the partner.
Now the bottom bar – the bottom bar has 4 icons: Habits, Punishments, Rewards, Notes.
Pressing Notes will open a new screen with 4 tabs you can open: Rules, Limits, Ideas, Other.
These basically function like basic Notes apps on your phone – you enter the text and save it for future use/ reference. You can also edit it. Both you and your partner have access to it.
Habits
Here you can see the list of all the habits/tasks you’ve given to/been given to.
Every habit has its name and description shown. Lines and dots below represent past days. Dots mean that the task has been successfully finished, the line means they did not finish the task.
The 1/1 means that my partner did the task today. If she missed the task that day, it would say 0/1.
Pressing on the habit will open a new screen, one with more details.
Pressing the ‘+’ button will create a new habit.
Let’s go through the process together.
First screen – name and description.
When you enter the information, swipe right (don’t press the checkmark).
Next screen – choose how often should the task be completed.
On this screen, I picked what days I expect the task to be done, how many times, and before what time.
The summary can be seen on the bottom of the screen: ‘’This habit must be done at least 1 time before 23:45 (11:45 PM) on the selected days.
I’m satisfied with that so I’m going to swipe right.
Next screen – choosing a reward.
So here you basically choose how many points your partner gets from completing the task – those points can later be spent on rewards. We’ll get to that in a second.
I decided to give Leja five points for every time she spends an hour developing a new skill.
Next screen – choose a punishment.
Punishment here is also in terms of points. So I decided she will lose 5 points every time she does not complete the task.
Last screen – other settings.
Here you can choose when you’ll be notified and who can complete the task.
I chose to be notified when the habit is completed and I also chose that only the sub can complete the task.
You can also change the timezone here.
Now when everything is ready – press the checkmark in the bottom left corner. TA-DA. You can now see the habit on the main list of all habits.
Now, let’s see the last two tabs – rewards and punishments.
As you can see, here is the list of rewards I created. On the top of the screen, you can see a little heart icon and a number next to it.
That’s the number of reward points she got until now. I can also decrease it or increase it.
Leja can spend her reward points on a reward of her choosing. She already spent 5 points on spankings – that’s the number one next to the spankings.
Pretty interesting system.
The punishment tab, also pretty straightforward, contains the list of punishments I created. The punishment can be manually updated by pressing on them and increasing the number.
It’s also possible to reset the number.
What else?
The menu has several interesting things that definitely deserve a mention. The first things are statistics and reward history.
The Stats screen show week and month score, a total number of perfect days, current and best streak. There is also a graph beneath.
Reward history is exactly what it says – a history of your rewards.
Another useful thing to know is the Permission tab inside the Settings. Here you can choose if a submissive can add or change items, change rules, ideas, limits, and notes.
Finale
All in all, I really don’t have any negative things to say about the app.
We used the app for two weeks, on a daily basis, and neither I nor Leja saw any bugs. It’s simple and user friendly. The short tutorial you go through at the beginning explains everything you need to know.
Although our personal dynamic is not such that we would use or need the tracker, I think that Obedience is pretty convenient and is a quality task tracker.
There are no unnecessary steps and buttons and using all the functions is straightforward.
I think that it’s especially ‘’useful’ if you’re in a long-distance relationship as it helps with tracking and engages both of the partners to participate.
The app can be perfectly used for free, however, you can only enter 7 tasks. The Pro version allows you to add more habits and to have individual habit reminders.
What’s also included in the Pro version are different color themes.
And more than anything, Obedience is created by one developer so the support is more than welcome.
Prices are as follows: 1 month – $3.49, 3 months – $6.99, 6 months – $9.99, 1 year – $13.99.
What I also liked is the option to buy an Obedience subscription for your partner too. This option is available on their website.
If you decide to go for the Pro version, buy it through this link to get a 10% discount (no need to enter the code or anything, it’s already applied).
The Obedience app is available on Google Play Store if you own an Android phone, or in the App Store if you own iPhone. You can also buy it through the app, however, without the discount.
Enjoy!
